About these guides
Andwat Trade Guides are free, plain-English guides to the compliance questions Australian tradies, fabricators, sole traders and small food businesses deal with: GST and BAS, quoting and invoicing, licensing, site safety paperwork, fabrication QA and food safety records.
Who writes them
Written by Jay at Andwat Co, an Australian boilermaker/fabricator (Cert III Engineering, 12+ years in the trade). Andwat Co is a sole trader business based in Queensland (ABN 77 173 994 186).
How the guides are written
- Each guide is a summary of official or primary sources, such as the ATO, Safe Work Australia, WorkSafe Queensland, QBCC, FSANZ, Queensland legislation, Standards Australia and the Australian Steel Institute. They're all linked at the bottom of each page.
- Each guide shows the date it was last reviewed against those sources. Rules change, so always check the linked source before relying on a figure.
- We don't reproduce Australian Standards. They're copyright, so the guides explain the idea and point you to the Standard.
- The guides are general information only. They aren't legal, tax, WHS or engineering advice. For your own situation, ask the regulator, your accountant or BAS agent, or a qualified adviser.
Templates and how the site is funded
Most guides link to a related spreadsheet or form pack sold by Andwat Co on Payhip. These are our own products. The Car & 4WD tools page contains Amazon affiliate links, and we earn from qualifying purchases made through them. Otherwise we don't receive commissions from anyone else, and the guides are written to be useful whether or not you buy anything. See all templates in the Andwat Co template store.
